Mildred’s Umbrella presents this Houston Premier about three women, full of life, lust and power, who reveal their passion for the same man, and confront the ways that love can both liberate and entrap. This lyrical drama weaves together their stories to construct the portrait of a man through the eyes of the women who love him.

Irish novelist Edna O’Brien has had nine books banned in her native country, but has won multitudes of admirers and numerous awards (including the Kingsley Amis Award for fiction, the Yorkshire Post Novel Award, and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize) around the world for her explorations of sex, marriage, religious upbringing, and predatory relationships. This play’s U.S. premier was in San Francisco in 2003 to rave reviews, and was produced in New York in 2004. This production was a Houston Premier.
