“Eros: A Circus”

2002

John Harvey’s surreal leap through love.

A play within a play in which a Ringmaster, Acrobat, and Tumbler eat duck, play chess, assault each other, and argue about love and death as they rehearse scenes from Eros: A Circus. The play juggles Greek Myths, and concentration camps, suicide and sex, as sthe characters begin to reveal how desire unravels their lives while they try to prepare for an evening’s performance.
